Sled Dogs Ireland – Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports is committed to providing an opportunity to both young and old to experience the world of Sleddog Sports. To educate, advise on, and promote Sled Dog Sports in Ireland and to provide a support to those who wish to learn more about Sled Dog Sports.

Membership Application

All members of the Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports are entitled to the following:


  • You have access to the Federation vet at a discount price on all consultations/operations etc,, 24/7

  • Members also have access to a network of members throughout the country.

  • Members also receive a training booklet, with information on all types of sleddog training and health.

  • Yearly membership for all members: 50 euro inclusive of IrishFSS event cover. 100euro including Public Liability cover to work/train your dogs nationwide. This also includes IrishFSS event public liability cover. For more info, contact the secretary.

  • For members to compete in all events a nominal fee shall be charged.

  • To compete in any SDI-IFSS event, you must be a member.Weekend membership available for a small fee.

Membership is open to all persons interested in Sled Dog Sports (whether or not owners) who wish to help the Federation in fulfilling its aims and objectives for the Sport. Subscriptions are due on the first day of June each year.

Note: Adult Membership is required by 16-18 year olds wishing to enter SDI - IFSS Rallies.

Training Tip:
Recreational Mushing:
Before you begin, take some time out to decide what you really need from your dogs. If you have a young family and you want them to be able to enjoy working with your dogs, it might be a good idea to select dogs that are small and of a gentle nature that would be suitable for children. You could choose older or retired dogs from another team and they could also help train your younger, less experienced dogs.

Before you go out on the trail with your dogs, always perform a thorough safety check. Inspect harnesses, lines, and all equipment. Make sure there are no breaks or excessive wear and tear. Make sure all snaps, quick release clips and carabiners are functioning correctly, and that there are no tears in the harnesses. Remember that safety precautions are in the best interests of both you and your dogs, and others around you.
